Growing up I could remember how exciting it was going to be to go to prom. Looking in the magazines for a dream dress, how I was going to wear my hair, who would be my date. I actually was fortunate enough to attend 2 proms, one at my school and then one for a guy I was dating.
My Senior Prom was not at all was my expectations were. Oh, my dress was very nice and my date was, well, his own style. But, I look back on my hair and makeup and cringe! How did I ever think that that hairdo was good —- let’s just say that a perm should never go untamed on a very short bob haircut! I will let you form your own mental picture on that one! And my makeup...no, no, no. I am not sure who I was channeling at that point, but it certainly was not very complimenting. All in all, it was a nice night (from what I remember), but I remember most that it did not live up to the hype.
Flash forward a couple of years. I was dating a guy that was a senior in high school and we attended his prom. My sister was dating one of his friends and we all went together. This time, I knew what to expect, so I was a little more prepared (prom should really come with a manual). My mom made a dress that I had found that I loved — she spent hours making my dress and I loved it. I got to pick out the material which made it more unique. My hair and makeup was much more complimenting to me and my date, well he was in a nice tux very simple.
So, where does all this lead? Flash forward to today. The styles of prom attire have changed and WOW! They are beautiful! I don’t remember dresses with beads all the way down them and guys in suits that could be straight out of GQ. I would have loved that! Especially with my love of looking through fashion magazines.
I had the pleasure this year of photographing some senior prom styles while in St. Louis. I do love my job! You could get your prom images at the dance itself, but WHY? Those are the same images that everyone else will have. Same poses, same backdrops, same everything (well except for the same people, of course). Step out of the norm - be a leader with prom images that will make your friends swoon. And the best part? We can set up a session date before of after the prom date. Just grab your dress and your date (as long as you are still friends), and let’s set up a Prom Shoot!
